La Flor de Almagro

A ninety-plus-year, unbroken four-generation family operation, on-site since 1968, with the maker naming specific continuities (the same chocolate brand, the founder's own recipes) rather than gesturing at heritage generally.

What we know

  • Founded 1933 by Italian immigrant Salvador Diglietto, who arrived in Argentina by ship in 1928 and worked ice-cream carts before opening his own shop
  • Fourth generation now entering the business: Salvador Palazzo's 20-year-old son Lautaro is learning the trade alongside him
  • Still uses the same chocolate brand (Fénix) the founder used, per the current maker directly
  • More than 50 flavours today, including flavours unchanged since the 1930s such as marrón glacé and quinotos al whisky
  • Same address since 1968 (Estado de Israel 4727); the original 1933 site was a rented shopfront on Corrientes and Rawson with the family living above it
