GelatoSpots is a global editorial guide to the ice-cream spots that matter, and a search for the answer to one deceptively simple question: which city has the best ice cream in the world?

Discovery has become generic. Maps optimise for proximity and popularity, social platforms reward virality, and AI answers recombine the same established lists. What gets harder to find is the thing worth travelling for.

So we research. We read specialist guides, local publications, professional competitions and the shops’ own accounts of what they make. We record what each source actually supports and when we last checked. Then we make a selection and say why — because a shortlist someone stands behind is more useful than a ranking nobody owns.

Every published spot carries a last-checked date. We do not publish per-shop scores. We do not let a commercial relationship change what we say about a spot or where a city ranks.

Where the research stands

50 cities under research across 33 countries, 48 published guides and 224 published spots. The Gelato Cities Index 2027 is expected in spring 2027.
