Cremeria Santo Stefano

A small shop on Piazza Santo Stefano that Dissapore's critic singles out for restraint rather than force - delicate spicing and an elegant crema base rather than maximalism - while working almost everything, down to its own cacao and jams, in a visible in-house lab. It carries both the top rating in the region's dedicated gelato guide and third place in an independent critic's ranking published the same month.

What to order
The crema all'uovo Sette Chiese, or the Crema Libanese (orange-flower water, almonds, pistachios)

What we know

  • One of only four Bologna gelaterie awarded Gambero Rosso's top Tre Coni rating in its 2027 guide (reported by Il Resto del Carlino, 22 June 2026)
  • Ranked third in Dissapore's independently reported June 2026 list of Bologna's best gelaterie
  • Every ingredient worked internally in the adjacent visible laboratory, 'dalla tostatura dei semi oleosi, alla trasformazione del cacao fino alla preparazione di confetture e lievitati' - roasting its own oilseeds, transforming its own cacao, and making its own jams and leavened doughs (Dissapore)
  • Signature crema base taken in historic and distinctive directions: the long-running crema all'uovo 'Sette Chiese' and a Crema Libanese scented with orange-flower water, almonds and pistachios (Dissapore)
  • Also makes fresh-fruit sorbets outside the standard citrus range, e.g. Chinotto di Savona and lemon with wild fennel (Dissapore)
