Vivoli

Florence's most continuously operated gelato address on the evidence gathered: a family dairy that became a gelateria in 1932 and has traded from the same Santa Croce address for nearly a century, surviving a citywide flood and a pandemic without moving or franchising.

What to order
The coffee affogato, on the menu since the 1960s (vivoli.it).

What we know

  • Founded 1929 as a dairy by Serafino Vivoli; brother Raffaello joined and the family began making gelato in 1932 (vivoli.it)
  • Trading from the same address, Via dell'Isola delle Stinche, since 1930, per the business's own account
  • Survived the 1966 Arno flood and Covid-era closures, in the pandemic selling gelato through the shop's centuries-old 'buchetta del vino' wine hole (vivoli.it; Dissapore, 25 Aug 2025, dates the wine hole to the 1500s)
  • Its coffee affogato, on the menu since the 1960s, became internet-famous after a 2023 social media post reached more than 20 million users (vivoli.it)
