Jones Ice Cream

Jones is the clearest maker-authority case found in Berlin: a formally trained pastry chef building every element of the product, including the cone, from scratch, with a flavour programme that reads as considered rather than novelty-driven. It is also the only Berlin candidate independently praised by two different local outlets.

What to order
Grapefruit and Earl Grey, or Greek yoghurt strawberry jam (tip Berlin, summer recommendation)

What we know

  • Every component made from scratch in-house: shortbread, marshmallows and the ice-cream cones themselves, per The Berliner (2024)
  • Started in 2014 as a small truck churning five litres of ice cream at a time before opening the Schöneberg storefront in 2016 (The Berliner)
  • Ambitious, changing flavour programme: cherry-tonka bean, liquorice-black caramel, Earl Grey with shortbread and lemon curd (The Berliner); grapefruit and Earl Grey, Greek yoghurt strawberry jam in summer, roast apple or vanilla-and-pretzel in winter (tip Berlin)
  • Founder Gabrielle Jones is a French-trained pastry chef; tip Berlin calls it 'possibly Berlin's best ice cream shop'
  • Production for the dairy base is moving into a dedicated commercial kitchen in Wedding as the business scales (The Berliner, 2024)
