Eissalon am Schwedenplatz

A 140-year-old Italian-migrant family business that still makes its own gelato at its own facility inside the city and can document six generations by name, year and address on its own site -- rare depth even by this project's standard.

What to order
Cassata, the 2026 Austrian 'Eis des Jahres' flavour it was selected to produce

What we know

  • Founded 1886 by Arcangelo Molin Pradel, an Italian migrant from the Zoldo valley (Belluno); the family's own site documents an unbroken generation-by-generation chronicle from 1885 to 2005 (Giovanni and Eugenio, Silvio, Remo, Silvio, Leonardo and Francesco)
  • Sixth generation now in the business, per the family's own historical timeline and confirmed separately by UNITEIS e.V.'s 140th-anniversary article
  • Produces its own gelato at a dedicated facility, the Manifattura del Gelato in Seestadt Aspern (22nd district), which runs public tours of the production process
  • Selected to produce Austria's official 'Eis des Jahres' (Cassata, 2026) and stocks the European 'Eis des Jahres' (Melody), per the shop's own current news post
  • Uses named organic milk ('frische Biomilch') in at least one dated flavour description on its own site
  • Marks Vienna's oldest ice-cream business of its kind, cited independently by UNITEIS e.V. and by the trade press (baeckerzeitung.at)
