Eis-Greissler

An exceptionally direct provenance chain -- the same family's cows, the same family's dairy, the same family's ice cream -- but the production itself is outside Vienna, which is recorded honestly rather than implied.

What we know

  • The ice cream is made from milk supplied by the Blochbergers' own approximately 50 cows on their organic dairy farm in Krumbach, Lower Austria, confirmed directly on the business's own history page
  • Origin story confirmed directly: the family already ran a certified-organic dairy selling milk, yoghurt and cream to schools, kindergartens and restaurants, and started making ice cream to use surplus summer milk when schools closed
  • Over 100 ice-cream varieties developed, preferably with regional ingredients, per the business's own history page
  • The Vienna shop itself is retail-only, 18 square metres, a three-minute walk from Stephansplatz -- production happens roughly 80km away at the Krumbach farm and dairy, not in the city
  • Legal entity is named 'Blochberger Eisproduktion GmbH' on the business's own site
