Dara's Ice Cream
Dara's is the strongest documented case of specialist commitment and ingredient provenance found in Cairo: a named founder who trained specifically in Milan, an explicit on-site, small-batch, no-artificial-ingredient production claim carried consistently across multiple branches, and at least two branches (Maadi, Zamalek) squarely inside the boundary.
What we know
- On-site production stated directly by the brand: 'Churned in-house, daily... small batches on site, in every shop... nothing arrives frozen in a box' — official site, accessed 2026
- Explicit no-artificial-ingredients claim: 'No artificial flavours. No artificial colours. No shortcuts' and 'real milk, butter, nuts and fruit from Egyptian farms' — official site
- Founder trained specifically for this craft: Dara Mohamed Ghoshesh travelled to Milan in 2014 to study ice-cream making before returning to Egypt and opening the first shop with Ahmed in 2017 — independently published account, 'A day at Dara's Ice cream'
- Multi-branch but still small-batch by the brand's own account: 12+ shops across Cairo, Giza and the Red Sea coast (El Gouna), each churning its own product rather than distributing from a central plant
- A named vegan line offered on the same production standard: 'Vegan, properly — a real vegan line, not an afterthought. Same churn, same standards' — official site
